Hello, hello! Hope you had a nice weekend! The weather was pretty gloomy and rainy here but we made the most of it. We cooked fish on Saturday and ravioli on Sunday. I made spaghetti sauce from scratch using real tomatoes and it was pretty darn good. Here is the recipe in case you’re interested. We watched a little Olympics here and there and also watched the first two Fifty Shades of Grey movies which I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of a fan. There were some funny parts that weren’t intended to be funny but it was entertaining. We also went to the movies and saw Lady Bird which we both agreed was SO good. I highly recommend you go. I think just about anyone would like this movie!
I don’t know about you but last week I started to get real down about the fact that its been extra gloomy outside. I get this way the same time of year – every year. The weather always has an impact on my mood and I am just DONE with winter. I’m just sick of all my winter clothes and the cold in general! Unfortunately we still have a ways to go here in the northeast so I’ve come up with a few ideas to boost our spirits in case you’re in the same boat as me. This weekend was proof enough that a lot of these tactics work because despite the fact that it was cold and rainy we made the most of it and ended up having a really good two days off!
#1 Plan Something to Look Forward To – this is always my #1 way to get into good spirits. Who doesn’t love looking forward to a trip or a fun night out with friends? Luckily we have a long weekend trip planned to Rosemary Beach this weekend and I AM SO EXCITED. I haven’t been to this beach before so I’m excited to get inspired by a new place. Nothing inspires me more than traveling.
#2 Make a Uplifting Playlist for Your Commute or at Work – compile a playlist of all your favorite feel good songs. I love the Good Vibes and the Chill Tracks playlists on Spotify.
#3 Call a Friend – because nothing makes us happier than our loved ones right?
#4 Play with Color – throw on a bright lip, earring, pair of shoes, or top to give you an extra hop in your step!
#5 Pamper Yourself – I am in serious need of a massage or mani/pedi situation. I can’t remember the last time I saw my toes and I’m pretty sure they need a little care at this point this season. Just a nice little treat for yourself.
#6 Digital Detox – get off ya phone and find something else to stimulate your creative juices. For me its taking photos for the blog or trying a new recipe!
#7 Catch Some Extra Z’s: I think my favorite part of a gloomy cold day is the excuse to lay low, take a nap, and not leave our apartment. And you know what, it ends up making me feel so refreshed!
#8 Re-Watch Your Favorite Show or Movie – FRIENDS anyone? It is always my go-to show to binge watch when I’m in a crummy mood.
#9 Get Outside – nothing like a fresh breathe of fresh air even in the cold – just bundle up!
#10 Get Organized at Home – get a head start on your spring cleaning or pick a few new pieces to change up your space at home to make it extra cozy or fresh.
What do you do to beat the winter blues?
