I treat my hair care similar to the way I treat my skin care. Just a few quality products are what you need to maintain a healthy natural look. I’ve tried a lot of different hair products over the past few years but just like my skin care products there are a few standout products I keep purchasing over and over again because they work the best. Of course I haven’t tried all the beauty products there ever was but these are the ones that stand out to me and are my current tried and true favorites-
Shampoo and Conditioner: I am a strong believer in having a good shampoo and conditioner. They can make or break your hair. Stylers should only slightly enhance the finished product of your hairstyle. I have tried a lot of shampoos and conditioners over the years but Oribe’s Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner is my absolute favorite. I go back and forth between the Gold Lust and the Shampoo and Conditioner for Beautiful Color. I love the color product for right after getting highlights. It will honestly keep your color looking like the first day you walked out of the salon for a good month. I love the Gold Lust for its extra moisturizing and restoring qualities. My hair is long, thick, dry, and gets the worst tangles every single day. This product is the holy grail and will make your hair so soft, healthy, and thick. Its almost like you don’t need styling product!
Hair Masks: I mentioned that my hair gets really dry and tangled everyday and sometimes that requires a little extra treatment. Enter hair masks. They are my SOS when my hair needs that something extra to fix it and bring it back to life. My favorite hair mask is another one from Oribe’s Gold Lust line. Its that extra conditioning I need when my hair is in serious need of it. It makes my hair so soft, thick, and more manageable. I have also been recently loving Moroccanoil Hydrating Masque which gives me the softest hair and even makes any hairstyle last even longer.
Hair Primer: The only product I use right when I get out the shower without fail is Bumble and bumble’s Hairdressers Invisible Oil Primer. I always need A LOT of conditioning because my hair is so thick and long (are you seeing a trend here???) and this makes brushing my hair out, heat-styling, or air-drying that much easier. It adds softness without weighing the hair down.
Dry Shampoo: I usually wash my hair in the evenings and if I ever need to revive it in the mornings before work I always need something to soak up oil so I don’t end up looking greasy by the afternoon. The only product that has worked on my hair for this is Badlands Dry Shampoo from R+Co. The sprays don’ really work on actually soaking up oil (for me) but this paste really does. When I need a boost in texture after work I always use the popular Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray to add more volume and body to my hair. I also love the way it creates that sexy bedhead look.
Hair Oils: If I want a soft, smooth, and straight hairstyle that doesn’t look flat I love a good hair oil. I will often just run it through damp hair and let it hair dry but it also is a great product for a smooth and straight blowout. My favorite oil lately is Oribe’s Gold Lust Hair Oil and I also like Moroccanoil Hair Treatment. I slightly like the Oribe one a little better because it keeps my hair thick and voluminous.
Leave-In Styling Treatments: AKA the best product for air-drying. I really like Bumble and bumble’s Don’t Blow It Hairstyler which is a hydrating leave in conditioner of sorts that basically lets your hair air-dry to it’s natural style without any effort.
Tousled Hair Products: This is a style that I like to achieve in the summer time at the beach. These products are great for spraying through your hair, creating wave by scrunching with your hands, and possibly a little blow drying for extra body. My favorite products are the ones by Bumble. Surf Infusion is great for a more natural slightly undone look. It doesn’t create as much wave as the Surf Spray which is probably why I prefer it a littler more. It creates a that messy more natural tousled look.
Blowout Products: Full disclosure I don’t blow out my hair often. I am too lazy to make time for a 15 minute blowout at home. If I do have time my number one product I use the most is Bumble’s Repair Blowout. I find that it is more conditioning and not as sticky so my hair is sleeker without getting tangled. I also really like the Surf Foam Spray for a ultra voluminous blowout that has serious holding power. I have also liked the Oribe Royal Blowout for a ultra sleek finish that is perfect for work.
Hairspray: I don’t like hard hairsprays with ultra hold. I much prefer sprays with a lighter hold so it keeps my style but doesn’t feel like glue. I love Bumble’s Cityswept Finish and Bumble’s Dryspun Finish.
Tools: I use an old Conair blow-dryer when I do decide to blow-dry my hair. I also use the Hot Tools curling iron to curl my ends.
That’s it! I am pretty lazy when it comes to hair and makeup which is why I pretty much rely on good products that work but are also quick and easy to use. That is why I truly believe in a good shampoo/conditioner combo and a few products here and there for styling. I probably use the dry shampoos, leave-in style treatments, and hair oils the most because I can get ready in a flash.
