Hi everyone! I hope your week has been going great! We are so close to the weekend which makes me happy!
Every now and then I go through a “mask phase.” Changes in weather or the ebbs and flows of stress can put a damper on your skin. I love masks because they are a quick, easy, and effective way to treat your skin when nothing else will do the trick. Not to mention the act of applying a mask while lounging on your couch and watching Siesta Key is the ultimate way of decompressing after a long day.
There are a ton of different textures, ingredients, and overall benefits in masks. I definitely encourage you to have 2-3 go to’s that work for you. There are 3 different categories of masks that exist and offer multiple solutions to your skin problems: clay masks, hydrating masks, and brightening masks. Here are my top picks:
Best for: oily skin, acne prone skin, grimy skin. Ideal for the summer and bringing on beach vacations!
I use clay masks in the summer or when my face feels oily and dirty. A good clay mask will gently clear out your pores yet leave your skin soft/smooth. This mask from Dermalogica is great for pesky blemishes. This one from Fresh is great for having around in the summertime for getting rid of grim and sweat. This mask from Revive is probably my favorite because not only does it deep clean but it tightens and makes your skin feel extra smooth. I use this mask from Caudalie all year round as I feel like it really deeply cleans your skin without stripping moisture. Last – I love this one from Peter Thomas Roth which not only deeply cleans but also exfoliates.
Shop Clay Masks:
Best For: super dry skin, puffiness (ahem, hangovers), sunburn, sensitive skin, aging skin. Great all year round.
Everyone should have a great go-to hydrating mask to use as you can use them all year round! I use them the most during the winter because my skin can get super dry! Lately I have been using them after a night of drinking. My favorite hydrating masks are sheet masks because they are soaked in so many ingredients and your skin just drinks them all right up. I have been loving any Florapy mask – this one is my fav. I bought this set over the holidays (it makes a great gift for your sister or friends) and they are just good to have for home or travel. I used this Pathology mask the morning of my wedding for hydration and glow. This SKII mask is amazing for prepping for events like weddings or just giving your skin life after a long flight. This Peter Thomas Roth mask is a great lightweight mask for summer and even detoxes which is a nice plus. This mask from La Mer is pricey but it is an amazing one. I also love Fresh’s rose mask which is perfect for hydrating, calming redness, and smells so good!
Many hydrating masks also address those concerned about aging concerns. I am obsessed with this Mario Badescu mask (only $18!) – it feels so good on my skin and has a nice plumping effect. Fresh Black Tea Firming Mask is another great go-to for its hydrating properties and its tightening effects. It is also cooling during the summer time. Clarins Firming Mask and Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Sheet Mask are both great options too for anti-aging. I am currently testing this mask out and will report back what I think!
Shop Hydrating Masks:
Best For: dry skin, dull skin (mostly due to dryness or dehydration…your skin will lack a rose-y color), prepping for events, un-even skin tone/dark spots. Great for the dead of summer and winter.
Brightening masks exfoliate dead skin off to quickly reveal fresh new skin. It is the best during the summer if you want to help your skin get rid of damaged/dead skin from over sun exposure. You won’t want to use this when you are sunburned. I also use brightening masks during the winter when I want to bring out more color in my face or get rid of flakiness. Brightening masks can also be your best friend when prepping for events like weddings. It will give that healthy glow and make your skin look flawless. I love By Terry’s mask, Tammy Fender Epi Peel, M-61 Power Glow Peel, Caudalie Glycolic Peel Mask, Kiehl’s Radiance Mask, Fresh Vitamin Nectar Mask (currently using a lot lately for summer), and last but not least Dermalogica Multi-Vitamin Mask (another great one I have been using in the summer after a beach weekend!).
