Happy Friday! I hope you all are about to head on outta town to spend Christmas with family. This year is Brett’s family’s turn so we’re headed out west to spend Christmas in Northern California. I still always get sad when I don’t get to spend Christmas with my side of the fam and this year we are leaving our little Sadie girl behind BUT I know she’s going to have the best time with her furry cousins!
I’m definitely looking forward to exploring northern California since I’ve never been and I’ve always wanted to visit there. It won’t be super warm but it will be warmer than it is here! We get in early tomorrow and will hit the ground running spending the day in Carmel which looks so picturesque in photos and I can’t wait to see it with my own eyes. On Sunday we’ll head into San Francisco to explore, shop, check out the bridge, and eat our little hearts out. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be spent with family which will include a lot of eating and drinking I’m sure! Our last stop of the trip will be a day spent in Napa for some wine tasting.
I didn’t buy anything specific for this trip so I shopped my own closet! When starting to put together a list of things to pack I immediately started channeling two of my favorite Northern California bloggers Alicia and Ashley (Alicia’s blog is Cheetah is the New Black and Ashley’s blog is Brunch on Chestnut). I’ve been following them for years and am obsessed with how laid back yet chic their styles are.
One of my goals in 2019 when it comes to clothes shopping is to invest in fewer better things that I’ll wear again and again while withstanding the test of time. Things like jackets and sweaters in the winter and more lightweight knits and relaxed pants in the summer. I’m going to try to just enjoy the trip and snap pics as I go without worrying about where to shoot an outfit, the time, etc.
Comfortable Fleece: I wish I was chic to tote off on a plane looking like I jumped out of a magazine but I’m not SO I’m wearing my Thread and Supply Fleece and will likely wear it most days of our trip.
Warm Novelty Jackets: It will be chilly but heavy winter coats are not necessary so I’m bringing along a few favorite jackets like this Tularosa jacket (last seen here), green sherpa jacket (see how I styled it here also like this and this one), my black leather jacket from Madewell , and my green bomber jacket I wore in this post (similar jacket here).
My Favorite Neutral Sweaters: I have a variety of neutral colored sweaters that I plan to bring including a taupe sweater similar to this one, this chunky beige sweater I bought from H&M this year (I’ve been wearing this one a lot! I wore it on the blog here. This one is similar and available in all sizes), this dark green ribbed sweater if I’m feeling festive, my favorite cozy cream duster I wore earlier this year on the blog (similar here and less expensive version here), and my trusty camel cashmere sweater from Everlane.
Doen Dress and Blouse (if I’m feel fancy): Doen is a California based brand that has been on my radar for a few years now mostly because of the exposure it has gotten from a lot of the California bloggers I follow. I just love the pretty bohemian prints and effortless styles. I plan to bring along this dress I brought me to the south of France last year and will likely pair it with a long cardigan (the dress is from a year ago but love this one and this one) and this blouse (last seen here) would be pretty to wear on Christmas Eve with a pair of jeans or my Everlane pants and flats.
Workout Clothes: Because I hope to get in a lot of walking and a few jogs in. Since getting Sadie my workouts have been less frequent and I can feel it! I’ll bring along my trusty Brooks’s running shoes, my favorite Lululemon running pants, and the half zips from Brooks under my Lululemon Jacket (this is similar to the one I bought last year). PS: I bought a few long sleeve tops from TJ Maxx and they were only $16! I hate spending a ton of money on workout clothes because I just sweat in them.
Pajama Set: These cozy pajamas that I bought from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale are the best!
Shoes: When it comes to packing shoes I always try to bring the pairs that can be worn with multiple outfits. I plan to bring these Frye booties that go with everything, my simple white SeaVees sneakers, and my leopard mules since the weather will be warmer to wear them
Black Cross-body Bag: This cross-body bag was a gift from last year and it’s been such a good bag for the winter and it’s coming with me!
