Even though I don’t go out as much as I used to, I do enjoy an excuse to get dressed up for a night out when the opportunity arises. Which is why I love having a little fun with the getting ready process – everything from creating a fun cocktail to blasting music in our apartment. Here are a few tips for getting ready for those holiday parties.
#1 Make a Holiday Cocktail: I am currently obsessing over anything champagne or cranberry related lately given the season. I love adding a little splash of Saint Germain or fresh juice to a glass of champagne or prosecco. Also, last weekend I made this Yule Mule and it was a delicious!
#2 Play With Your Makeup: I am not one to change my makeup routine but for a night out out I will! I love to play up my eyes, pull out a bold lipstick, and obviously throw in a fresh coat of fun nail color. Here is what I chose to do this year:
A Subtle Metallic Smokey Eye: For the holidays I love gold metallic eyeshadows. I start with a good eyelid primer (I use Lune+Aster Eyelid Primer) all over the upper eye area below the brow. Then I put on Nudestix Metallic Eye Color in Gold all over my eyelid. This creates a subtle shimmer and a great neutral base to build off of. Next I use my favorite Laura Mercier Eye Caviar Stick in Mauve to line the top lid line and a little into the crease of the eye. I will then use my finger to blend the color to create a very subtle smokey eye and a slightly defined crease. I will also line and smudge a subtle line (using the same Caviar Stick) on the lower (outer) lid to make my eyes pop and look bigger. To add a little more sparkle, I swiped Bobbi Brown’s Sparkle Eye Shadow in Baby Peach to the outer corners for my crease. The last step is to line my upper and (outer) lower lids. I use an eyeliner brush to apply thin line of Bobbi Brown’s Eyeshadow in Cocoa instead of black to create a more natural blended look with the eyeshadows.
A Burgundy Lip: I couldn’t forget a pop of red lipstick and I have been loving Bobbi Brown’s Luxe Lip Color in Your Majesty lately for the holidays!
Shimmery Nails: Instead of red nails I opted for something a little more subtle with a hint of metallic shimmer. I went with Deborah Lippman’s Whatever Lola Wants which is a shimmery light pink. So fun for the holiday!
Tousled Waves w/ Texture: For my hair I simply curl about 1 to 2 inches pieces of my hair all around with a 1 1/4 inch iron to create a little more lift and subtle curl. I focus on the bottom portion of my hair since my hair is so thick and I don’t like curls that are too tight. To keep the texture in tact, spray Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray from the mid portion of your hair to the ends. You can also apply to your roots but I focus on my ends!
Musky Fragrance: Last I spritzed on my current go-to fragrance at the moment: Jo Malone’s English Oak & Redcurrant Cologne. A sexy fragrance that is perfect for a night out.

#3 Throw on a Sexy Top: I am usually a through and through dress girl but I picked up this blouse while in the Hamptons in early fall and I just fell in love with it. I decided to bring it out last weekend for a holiday party. Blouses are ideal for a lower key holiday house party with friends.

#4 Grab Your Classic Accessories: Since I don’t find myself dressing up too often this time of year I buy accessories that will pretty much go with any and everything. This means a classic black heel and clutch. I recently picked up these shoes for such a steal at DSW and have been wearing them with pretty much every holiday outfit. Also, having a go-to clutch or two is so nice to have around for fancier occasions.
#5 Add a Statement Earring: I wish I wore the earrings I planned to wear out this night out in these pictures since it looked so fancy with the outfit. I hardly ever wear such a bold earring but I definitely love to pull mine out during the holidays because why not?
