Hi friends! How was the weekend? I am looking forward to a short week for us. We will kicking off the holiday weekend early and flying out to California this Thursday night to see Brett’s family in Laguna Beach. If any of you have any recommendations on what to do and see (and mostly importantly where to EAT) – LMK!
We had an eventful weekend here in DC this past weekend. The weather was perfect so we made sure to be outside as much as possible. On Saturday we spent the day in the U Street Corridor. We started our day off at The Fainting Goat for a late brunch. It was SO good. They offer bottomless mimosas and bloodies which we definitely took advantage of but the highlight was absolutely the food. I got the french toast which I was planning to share with Brett but it was too good to share too much of (read: it had Nutella on it. Enough said). We shared an avocado toast (delicious) and Brett ordered eggs in a pastry. I was too busy scarfing down my french toast to get to try his but he was very pleased with his choice!
After brunch our stomachs were very full so we decided to walk around the neighborhood and check out the local scene. I love wandering around a city and feeling like a true local. We might only live 5 miles away but every neighborhood in DC feels a little different than the other. The U Street Corridor is known for being a young and vibrant part of town that edges more on the hipster side. Once you step foot in the area you can sense that laid-back artsy vibe right away. If the style of dress doesn’t give it away just check out all the trendy restaurants, coffee shops, beer garden, fun music venues, and a handful of quirky local boutiques.
The Little Leaf Shop is an adorable boutique that I had heard a lot about before especially on Instagram. You can tell from my photos just how insta-worthy it is. It is the perfect little gift shop where you can pick up thoughtful gifts and trinkets like a succulent plant, coffee table book, a pretty card, and so much more. Salt & Sundry is a local sister shop to The Little Leaf that sells the prettiest items for your home. There are so many amazing things in there that would make great gifts for a hostess. You truly have to see it to believe it.
We surprisingly worked up somewhat of an appetite and headed to Dos Moi for happy hour. The restaurant is so clean and pristine looking which I loved. All the decor is white and simple which made for a calming atmosphere. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed nibbling on some asian inspired small bites. The thai styled marinated beef was delicious! I definitely want to come back here to try more food!
U Street is also home to a lot of popular small music venues like the 9:30 Club and U Street Music Hall. I’ver gone to both but have been to 9:30 Club a lot more. I love this venue because of how intimate it is and how close it is to where we live. If you get there early enough you can grab a good spot on the floor towards the front of the stage. We will be heading there on Oct. 28th to see Gryffin which I’m pretty excited for. Although I just realized that it is going to be Halloween weekend ah! #imold.
Also – a quick note about this dress from Old Navy…It is SO awesome you guys and super budget friendly! It is so comfortable to walk around in and it would totally work in the early fall months too with added layers. The print looks designer which makes it that much better to wear knowing it is under $50! It comes in 3 different colors and you need this dress! Shop it here.
Have a great start to the week everyone!
