Hi friends! I hope you had a nice weekend. We went to my parents house to spend time with family as my brother and my sister-in-law brought their two dogs. It is so much fun to be around three dogs. I know this is my dad’s dream haha. I am starting to get excited for our new furry addition which is supposed to be born in less than two weeks!
So, now I am taking you to Paris. Being the fashion obsessed person I am, you can imagine how excited I was to be in Paris for the first time! I am still dreaming of this magical city. The architecture, the cafes, and yes the French fashion! My favorite part of our time in Paris was spending hours at a cafe, sipping on wine & chips, and people watching. I loved observing the chic French women – how they dressed, how they spoke to one another, and how they carried themselves. The French woman is very confident in how she walks and how she talks. I wish I could speak French so I could translate what these women were talking about with each other because they talked non-stop! I am sure they talk about the typical things women talk about – gossip, boys, friendships, work, etc.
So back to the fashion. French girl style is very simple but luxurious. Everyone seemed to wear similar outfits but with subtle personal touches. The important thing to note about how the French dress is to have simplicity, versatility, and quality in mind. To have a piece that you can wear multiple different ways PLUS will last forever – is enough to justify the price tag. More than anything though the biggest accessory that French women carry along with them although as mentioned above is: confidence. Aside from that here are the 5 basic must-haves for building a Parisian wardrobe:
Quality Jacket – Every girl walking around the streets of Paris had a chic jacket. There were A LOT of leather moto jackets…like A LOT. There wasn’t a lot of suede (probably because of the un-predicable rain that occurs in Paris everyday) but a ton of leather. Leather jackets go with everything these days – jeans, skirts, dresses, and slacks. The options are endless and who doesn’t like to throw in a little edge to their look? I would find a dark brown or black jacket. It gets cold in Paris come September so there were also many girls wearing long wool and trench coats. They look so chic with simple ankle jeans, white sneakers, and tousled hair. Shop a few favorites below:
Plain Knit – Ok, so underneath the amazing jacket or coat is a simple knit. The perfect tee or thin cashmere sweater comes to mind. This is a staple you will constantly be grabbing over and over again to wear with not only jackets & jeans but skirts & cardigans too. A simple luxury worth splurging in!
Flattering Pants – We all strive to have the one pant or pair of jeans that not only goes with everything but flatters our body too. The skinny jean is making its way out but their are many slimming jeans out there from slacks to denim. Find a pair that hits right at your ankle to show off your shoes!
Comfortable Flat Shoe – Living in a big city like Paris means a lot of walking but French girls don’t sacrifice their style for comfort – although comfortable shoes can still be stylish! I saw a lot of sneakers, booties, and oxfords in Paris. Shop a few favorites below.
Classic Handbag – Last but not least is the handbag. We all know France is home to some of the most iconic handbag brands: Chanel, YSL, Hermes, …you get the point. While I refuse to spend that kind of money on a handbag right now, I am likely to spend between $300-$500 on a classic leather bag that will go with everything from work to evening. Here are a few structured satchels and cross-body bags I am loving now:
