Hi you guys! I am coming at you with a rare Thursday blog post. We had so much fun in Virginia wine country last weekend that I had to squeeze in an extra post to talk about it. Brett and I have become huge winos over the past year and Virginia has a huge presence of vineyards. We rarely ever take advantage but last weekend we had a free stay at one of the hotels in Charlottesville so we took it as a good excuse to check out one of the vineyards.
Pippin Hill has been on my radar for while ever since I started checking it out as a potential wedding venue. The property is stunning and a true treat to visit even on a misty and rainy day. The views are seriously breathtaking and the main building is located conveniently on top of a hill so it makes it easy to take in the glory of the well manicured property.
We arrived very hungry so we immediately sat ourselves down outside and ordered some food and a glass of wine. I had the kale salad while Brett had one of the pastas and we both shared the cheese plate. The food was very delicious and just what we needed to curb our hunger after a long drive. The wine I ordered was the Petit Verdot which is a fruity red wine with subtle hints of tobacco and leather. This was my favorite wine that I tasted while there.
We were a bit chilly after finishing up our lunch so we headed inside to the cozy bar setting to do a few tastings. There are two tastings they offer – one that is predominantly whites and the other that highlights a few more reds. I definitely liked the red wines a lot more than the whites – although I am somewhat partial to reds in general. Each red we tasted we both agreed were very tasty. The whites were just a bit too sweet to my liking but I did really like the Zero White wine. It is a great crisp and light summer wine which is exactly how I like my whites to be!
Pippin Hill is definitely worth the trip with your guy or a few girlfriends this summer. In rain to shine it is the perfect spot for a change of scenery with beautiful views, ambiance, and food/wine. It is about a 2 hour 15 minute drive from the city. We got there around 1:30 and stuck around for about 2 hours. You could definitely hang out longer but keep in mind there is typically a wedding there on a Saturday so I believe they close down around 4 or 4:30. After leaving we were inspired by our lovely stay that we are looking to make a few more day trips out to other vineyards in the area this summer. Have any of you ventured out to any Virginia wineries? I’d love to know your recommendations!
PS: I always seem to kind of forget that spring so a lot chillier than I want it to be but I have been living in my utility jackets SO much this season. I linked a lot of options below. I love my green ones but I always think beige is a great color too. I have also been wearing my beige leather jacket (shown here, here, and here)
