Summer Navy

July 19, 2016

Dress: Robbie and Nikki (very similar here and love these navy dresses: here, here, here, here, here, here, and here), Sandals: J.Crew (old, similar here, here, here, and here), Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (old, similar here)

Hi there! Hope you had a great weekend! It was beautiful here in DC and we enjoyed yet another weekend around town. We checked off a few more items on our wedding checklist but still managed to enjoy ourselves by laying out at the pool and cooking dinner. It is crazy how hot it is getting here in DC and I am loving it but wearing any kind of sleeves or pants is pretty much out of the question.

Navy is the new black in the summertime. It is a great neutral color that is super appropriate for work or the weekends. It is a color that is universally flattering on everyone. A-line dresses always work perfectly for my petite body type and I love the V-neck of this dress which compliments my collarbone and shoulders. My favorite way to accessorize navy is to keep it neutral for an ultra classic look.

Have a great week friends!

Getting Healthy + Acai Bowl Recipee

July 15, 2016

Recipee via Pop Sugar

Once the 4th of July weekend wrapped up, reality hit that our wedding is only 2 months away! I decided it was about time to start eating better and get my body into healthier shape. My goal isn’t to lose a lot of weight, I would be fine maintaining my current weight (although, a pound or two wouldn’t hurt!). My ultimate goal is to feel better and stronger both mentally and physically. I grew up playing a lot of sports up until college so I have always been very active my whole life. But ever since getting into the real world my motivation to keep active has definitely fallen off the radar over the years. So getting back into a good rhythm didn’t come easy at first. When I first started out on this “journey” I was either focusing too much food or too much on exercise and I wasn’t happy with my results. I decided that balancing a healthy diet with exercise is what I needed to start feeling results all the while not being hard on myself if I sneak a little a sweet treat here and there.

I am a huge foodie and I hate to feel like I am sacrificing an indulgent meal but I know I needed to cut down my carb intake to start feeling lighter. I still eat carbs on the days I plan on running because a girl needs her energy to burn! I have been eating a lot of eggs, fruit (so many of acai bowls. See recipe here), salads, and protein. I will sneak in a slice of bread in the morning or a little chocolate in the afternoon (can’t help it!) but I have cut out eating bagels, sandwiches, and pastas for the time being. Eating healthy CAN taste good though (and curve your not so good-for-you cravings) so I will be sharing some of my favorite meals I have made so far in future posts. One of those meals being an acai bowl – see recipe here. It is basically like eating a smoothie bowl with all your favorite fruits on top.

When it comes to exercise, I have been trying hard to get my stride back. I have been holding myself accountable to run 4 times a week, weight train 2-3 times a week, and take Fridays off. I would be lying if I said this has been a breeze. To be honest I can only run for 2.5 miles now and I still have to stop for a breather every once in a while but I am determined and I will get to that point where I don’t need to stop. Lifting has been a great change of pace from running on my off days and I love how satisfied I feel after a good lift. I know my muscles are just dying to come out any day now (ha!) 🙂

Have you tried to get back into a healthy routine this summer? Any tips on what has worked for you?

Have a great weekend friends!

Pretty Frills

Dress: Anthropologie (old, similar here, here, here, here, here, and here) Sandals: JCrew (old, here, here, here, and here) Bag: Rebecca Minkoff

Hi friends! Sorry for the silence yesterday. I had the most amazing and productive weekend spent at home this weekend. Brett was out of town at a bachelor party so I got to get a little “me” time and some girl time in with my sister. I often forget how nice it is to get some time for myself and how even more nice it is to get girl time in. Brett travels for work during the week so most weekends we are attached at the hip and are on the same schedule. We workout at the same time, eat at the same time, watch TV together…you get the picture. It was nice to get a little excuse to not have to compromise for once 😉

My sister and I spent a nice Saturday night in chatting, listening to music, cooking a healthy dinner, sipping on some rose, and watching a silly movie. This dress is so cute yet comfortable for heading around town to pick up groceries, head to lunch, and cozy up at home. It is that time of year where strapless dresses are the only item comfortable enough to wear in the DC humidity – but you gotta find clothes that are cute. Am I right? This dress is an old Anthropologie dress from years ago but I linked a few similar ones above. Hope you have a great start to the week friends!
