Every once in a while I’ll see or hear something that will totally resonate with me and I’ll immediately want to share with you in the hopes that it will inspire you or make you think differently like it did to me! I think we (myself included) think too much about the next big milestone that we don’t already have. Things like going on a big trip, getting promoted, securing a big deal at work, getting into your best shape, starting a family, buying a house, etc. The list can go on, right?
I got to thinking about New Years Resolutions and how we tend to make resolutions based on the things we haven’t done yet or want to do more of in the future. While I think that is all good, we barely look back on all the accomplishments we’ve done thus far. I think we need to give ourselves more credit and more pats on the back. We often times forget about those little victories that we achieve everyday. The little victories that get us to the big victories down the road.
I use the Nike running app when I go for runs outside and I love the little voice within the app that encourages me as I go. At the end of one of my recent runs it said something to effect of enjoying the small moment of going for a run that day. It might not have been my fastest or longest run but I did it. It made me feel a little prideful in the moment. It seems so small but motivating myself to workout after a work day feels like a huge check off my box for the day.
It made me think of how we could find more ways to appreciate the little moments that give us the confidence to keep going. You might not even sit down to think about how many little accomplishments you make through an average day! It could even be taking 15 minutes to yourself in the morning to drink coffee in silence (something I cherish everyday and know one day I might not have those sweet little moments).
I saw someone post an image on Instagram that said “remember when you wanted what you already have?” Maybe even taking a moment each to day just reflect on all the things you DO already have will feel like a little victory worth celebrating in that moment.
Anyway – just a random thought to close out the week!
